MR. P. HOCKLE;Y'S POST
Following his appointment as manager for New Zealand of _ Gordon and Gotch (Australasia), Limited, Mr. Peter Hockley will shortly leave Christchurch, whore he has been South Island manager for 11 years, to take up his residence, in Wellington. Tho appointment does not involve any change in tho local administration of tho North Island houses, Mr. R. A. Loe being manager for Auckland and Mr. Charles Moore manager for Wellington* . Born in London, Mr. Hockley arrived in New Zealand with his parents in 1878. He was educated at St. Michael's School, Chriatchurc.il, and tho Cathedral Grammar School. He commenced his career in the book trade in Christchurch in 1893, and. subsequently had experience in Auckland and Dunedin. Ho was manager of tho book department in Whitcombo and Tombs, Limited, at Christchurch and Wellington, and made business trips to England and Australia. Later he was appointed manager of Whitcombe and Tombs' publishing house in Melbourne, and in 1919 lie became managing-director of Hutchinson's Proprietary, Limited, conducting a largo wholesale and retail business in Victoria. Ho joined Gordon and Gotch (Australasia), Limited, as South Island manager in 1924. Mr. Hockley has been a member of tho Christchurch Rotary Club and the executives of the importers' section of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and the Christchurch Business Men's Club. He has been closely associated with many musical organisations.
