STRANGE SICKNESS
EPIDEMIC AT POKENO CREEK WATER SUSPECTED [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Wednesday An epidemic of what appears to be a form of summer sickness is being experienced at Pokeno, t and in six cases medical attention has been necessary. One patient has been removed to the Auckland Hospital. In a family of four, father, son and daughter were taken ill about a week ago after bathing in a pool of the creek at Pokeno. They developed high temperatures and vomiting followed, continuing for some days. They are now recovering but are still confined to bed. The mother, who was the only one who did not bathe in the creek, did not contract the complaint. Some of the other residents who have become ill had also been bathing in the creek. Among these is the patient who is now in hospital. The symptoms have been similar in all cases.
