"PAGANS" IN DOMINION

CONCERN OF CHURCHMEN BIBLE LEAGUE COMMENDED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Tuesday In the course of a discussion at the annual conference of the Methodist Church statements were made that in one square mile of Auckland there were. 12,000 children who knew nothing of Jesus Christ, and that thero were a quarter of a million pagans "in New Zealand.

Mr. L. Watson, of Oxford, Canterbury, said that exaggerated statements as to the number- of children who were not receiving religious instruction did harm to the work of the Bible-iu-State-Schools League. He did not'believe the assertion that in one square mile of Auckland there were . 12,000 children who knew nothing of Jesus Christ. In regard to the statement that there were 250,000 pagans in New Zealand, he considered the influence of the Church had permeated the community to an extent that made that impossible. The conference adopted a motion expressing appreciation of the work of the Bible-in-S±ate-Schools League.
