SUPPLY OF WATER
AREA AT PAPATOETOE WORKS EXTENSION SCHEME A suggestion that the Papatoetoe Town Board should extend its existing waterworks to meet an increasing consumption in the district, was considered at a board meeting last night. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, said that even if the Auckland Metropolitan Water Board scheme, or thf* Hunua Gorge scheme materialised, it would probably be at least two years before water would be made available for the Papatoetoe and outer districts. In the past few months the Papatoetoe pumping plant had been running extra hours to cope with the demand. This had increased the cost of water. "If we had a larger supply at the well and bore, our plant could easily lift 12,000 gallons an hour," added the chairman. He suggested that the board consider sinking another bore at the waterworks. If this were available the plant could be run at full capacity for shorter hours daily. The saving would more than offset the outlay. it was decided that the Waterworks Committee should prepare a report.
