REDUCTION IN TURNOVER

There was a reduced turnover on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Conditions were steady, the majority :D f sales being at current rates. A decline of 15s in ofiers for the J940 4 per cents was the principal feature of the market; for Government loans. On the other hand, inquiries for rural bonds were 10s higher at £lO4. The 1916 4 per cent bonds changed hands 7s Sd firmer at £lO6 17s 6d, ivhile the 1949 issue improved 5s to sell at £lO7 10s. A parcel of 1955 bonds jvas taken at the ruling levd, £lO9 10s. In banks Nationals of New Zealand were Is easier on sale at £3 lis, and •Reserve Banks were taken unchanged at £6 lis 6d. Offers for New Zealands opened slightly easier, but later recovered, and when holders reduced their quotations- to £os 9d u parcel was taken at this figure, an unchanged rate. Levels for New South Wales closed 2s 6d firmer, but offers for Commercials and English, Scottish and Australians ■were a shade easier. Buyers of insurance shards were not jrery active, and the only sale was in Standards, which were unaltered at 72s 6d. Uuddart-Parke;r3 rose 3d in a salt* at 37s ana Ijtter advanced again to sell at 3Ss.
