DROWNED IN CREEK

THE WAIUKU FATALITY BOY'S BRAVERY COMMENDED [by telegraph—own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Friday The inquest into the death of John Wirth, aged 42, who was drowned while bathing in a tidal creek at Otaua, near Waiuku, yesterday, was held before the district coroner, Mr. A. M. Barriball, at Waiuku to-day. A verdict of accidental death was returned. The coroner commended the bravery of Raymond Sterger, aged 14, who attempted to rescue deceased, but was dragged under by him, and had to break away. The evidence revealed that the tide was exceptionally high at the time and the strong current carried the body a considerable distance upstream.
