DAVIS CUP CONTEST
CANADA NOT TO ENTER FIRST MATCHES TOO EARLY {Received January 16. 5.55 p.m.) OTTAWA, Jan. 15 Canada will not enter for the Davis Cup contest this year owing to the necessity of meeting the United States before the Canadian players would be irito their stride. Instead a Canadian contingent will go to Wimbledon and other English centres. AUSTRALIAN TEAM CHOICE OF SELECTORS MELBOURNE, Jan. 16 The Australian. Lawn Tennis Association has decided to send an Australian lieam to compete in the Davis Cup comjjetition this year. .The following players have been chosen: —J. H. Crawford, V. McGrath, A. K. Quist and D. Turnbull, with Norman Brooks as non-playing caplain. ; A suggestion that, only three players should be sent was disregarded on. the ground that Australia this year has a good chance of 'winning the cup, and \o send only three players would involve unnecessary risk. It was agreed that Mrs. Crawford should accompany her husband, and ithat £375 be*paid toward her expenses, the same as last year.
