FALSE PRETENCES
PROBATION FOR DOMESTIC "I am not going to do anything that will have the effect of punishing you, because I think you have been sufficiently punished," said Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M , to a domestic, Marv Beneon Cannon, aged 22 (Mr. Dickson >. in the Police Court yesterday. Accused had been remanded for sentence the previous day on charges of obtaining from a city firm a total sum of £ll 1 ; 35.6d by falsely representing that two cheques were good and valid orders for £8 and.£3 13s 6d. Counsel said accused had since disclosed the name oi the person to whom she had given the money. Apparently the person, a young woman, had wanted to go to Sydney. Accused had already been in prison a week, and counsel submitted that the ends of justice would be met by a period of probation, so she could have an opportunity of rehabilitating herself. Accused was admitted to probation for two years, on the condition that she spent the first six months • W the Salvation Army Industrial Home. She was allowed 12 months to make restitution of the money.
