CRIMINALS CHASES
ONE MAN WITH GUN 4 THREE HELPERS PRAISED MAGISTRATE'S COMMENDATION INCIDENT IN CHRISTCHURCH [BT TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. The action of three young men who assisted a constable to pursue two men one of them armed with a loaded re! volver, who were suspected of having broken into a warehouse, was warmly commended in the Christchurch MagiV trate's Court to-day by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M. The men who gave the assistance to the police were two brothers, Mr. WiU liam Frederick Guy and Mr. Vernon Nei} Guy, and Mr. Leslie Walter Piper. The constable, who arrested one mau after a long chase, was Constable B. Wootton, of Sydenham. The arrested man was Leslie Pearce, labourer, aged 30. " The public of Christchurch and the authorities are under a considerable debt to you and your companions for your enterprise and energy in pursuing two criminals," said the magistrate to one of the brothers, " and I think it is my duty on behalf of the authorities to thank you." To the other brother, who said ha was 20 years of age, the magistrate remarked that what he had said before he repeated, with even greater em. phasis. Speaking to Mr. Piper, the magistrate said his remarks applied equally fully. He felt that Mr. Piper had showii admirable conduct, and merited the approbation of every citizen.
