NEW LYNN AFFAIRS
Applications for reductions in the minimum water rates were received from two consumers living outside the borough limits at last night's meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr. G. Lawson, presided. The applicants requested a reduction in tho minimum water rate of £3 10s. Several members considered that tho charges were excessive, hut it was pointed out by the town clerk that much expense had been involved in providing water facilities for people outside the borough. Tho applications were declined.
Some discussion took place on the question of the appointment of a borough traffic inspector. It was stated by several members that there was need for more effective control of cyclists, there having been an epidemic of riding on footpaths lately. The matter was deferred until the next meeting, the borough inspector being instructed to prepare a report on the matter. It was also decided to defer until the next meeting the question of changing the name of either Rewa Street or Rewa Rewa Road, New Lynn, owing to the confusion often arising between the two thoroughfares.
