BIG FRENCH LINER

BUILDING DEPRECATED NOT EXPECTED TO PAY PARIS, Dec. 21 During a debate in the Senate, M. Hennessey condemned the building of the giant liner Normaiylio at a cost of millions as France's reply to the Queen Mary. He said it would be impossible for the Normandie ever to 'pay. " There are hardly any 'newly rich' left," said M. Hennessey. " Even Hollywood stars are travelling in more modest style. Long before the Normandie has a chance of paying for herself. there will be a transatlantic air service."

M. Bertram!, Minister of Mercantile Marine, replied that French companies were nearing an agreement among themselves and with foreign competitors to abolish unprofitable competition.
