DOUBLE GOLDEN WEDDING
! UNUSUAL CELEBRATION A notable event is to be celebrated i on Monday next, Christmas Eve, at the residence of Mrs. .7. Lees, 11 Armadale 1 Road, Remuera, when a double golden I wedding will be honoured. The Rev. T. j N. Cuttle will conduct a short service jof thanksgiving, and relatives and I friends from all parts of New Zealand j will gather to congratulate the couples. It was on December 24, 1884, a£ the residence of the brides' parents, Epsom, when the double wedding was celebrated of two sisters, Miss Annie, the youngest daughter and Miss Sarah, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Cornish llowe, of Penzance, Cornwall, England, who were among the early settlers arriving in New Zealand | in the year 1860, and who also resided ; in Remuera during the whole of their i life in the Dominion. The former was 1 married to Mr. James Knox, jun., son i of Mr. James Knox, sen., of Lang- | holm, Scotland. The husband of the ' second sister is Mr. ■ Robert' Ross, of Rothes, Scotland. All four are alive and well to-day, together with the three bridesmaids and one groomsman, who i participated in the original service. The I officiating minister was the Rev. G. B. Monro, of St. Luke's Church, Remuera, with which church both families were intimately connected for a number of • years. Both couples have resided at | Remuera practically ever since.
