GLUT OF STRAWBERRIES

LOWER PRICES PREVAIL RESULT OF WET WEATHER As a result of the recent heavy rains the strawberry season is at present at its peak and prices are the lowest so far reached this year. Supplies are very plentiful, as this time of the year is considered to be the brief period when the markets are glutted. However, the watery nature of the present pickings, caused by the sudden rain, prevents them from being kept for long after purchase. Should the weather remain unsettled until Christmas, the public may expect to buy strawberries at prices lower than are customary at that time. Reversion to the parched conditions which preceded the last few days' rain, however, would result in higher prices as the season's main crop would not suffice for more than about two weeks.
