AN AUCKLAND PLAYHOUSE
Sir,—l hope that the report of MajorGeneral Sir Fabian "Ware's distressing experience in trying to address a meeting in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall in competition with extraneous noises will stimulate the movement to build a playhouse where audience and actors will have something more than a sporting chance of hearing and being heard. It is true that I have attended plays in the Concert Chamber when I would have welcomed the sound of any band, when 1 envied the people in the passing trams and wished that I had been a cheering wrestler, rather than a depressed playgoer, but in spite of this, I think it would be better if playgoers could choose their noises and not have them thrust upon them.
