GRENADIER GUARDS BAND
Sir, —J. am among tliQse who have been looking forward . with great eagerness toStlio advent of the splendid band of the Grenadier Guards at Auckland, i was privileged to hear this band, on many occasions in my boyhood days in England, when it was under the conductorship of the celebrated Dan Godfrey. I was thrilled when I found this magnificent band would be paying the Dominion a visit. I am greatly disappointed through finding no provision has been made for an outdoor performance, say in the Domain, where all and sundry could enjoy both seeing and hearing this wonderful band at a small charge for admission. There are thousands of lovers of good music who, through the hard times we are experiencing, will be unable to bear the expense of attending any of the concerts arranged. 1 would therefore earnestly ask the powers that bo to endeavour to give the lower five the opportunity of enjoying a rich musical treat. To hear the band at its best it should be at an outside performance. Hard Up. "Rata" also writes urging outdoor performances by the band.— Editor Herald.
