AREA AT TE HANA SCENIC RESERVE PROPOSED [fbom our own cobbespondent] WELLSFOR % D. Monday An effort is being made to save an area of 59 acres of native bush at Te Han a from being cut for milling purpose. It contains a number of fine kauri .and totara trees and has a fine stream running through it. It is adjacent to the main Te Hana-Mangawai Ro«id, and offers a site for a very fine camping plaoe. Residents of the district are endeavouring to have the property secured as a a?enic reserve and have approached the authorities in Wellington A favourable reply was received from the Hon. J. G. Coates, and the help of the Automobile Association has been enlisted.
The property was recently owned by Tobacco Growers (N.Z.), Limited, and the timber in the bush was sold last weok for removal for the sum of £235. The buyer was approached by the local committee and is quite willing to forgo his rights to the timber if the property is taken as a scenic reserve. It is one of the few blocks of bush left in the district adjacent to a main highway.
