RACE FOE FLIERS DISTANCE OF 286 MILES EVENT IN AUSTRALIA SIX COMPETING MACHINES By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received November 10, 7.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 19 An air pageant was hold to-day at C'ootamundra, New South "Wales. The chief event was an air race from Melbourne, a distance of 286 miles. J here were six starters, including Squadron-header D. E. Stodart and Sergeant K. G. Stodart. All the competitors had reached Cootam undra at 2..'30 p.m., hut the winners will not he announced either for the speed or for the handicap section until the times have been officially checked. The first prize for the speed section is £loo. The first competitor to arrive was 31 r. H. J. Broadbent, flying in a de Havilland Moth. He left Melbourne at 11.7 a.m. and reached Cootamundra at 1 ..'SO p.m. The other live arrived at brief intervals after that in the following order:— G. Goon, C. Butler, Squadronleader Stodart, K. Farmer and J. Cook.
