CRUELTY TO DOGS
Sir, —We are roussd to righteous anger by the thought of bull-fights and of vivisection. We gladly give our money to provide for infirm cats, but no one protests against the inhuman \vay in which some children tease dogs behind fences. It is a cruel habit. The dogs become savage and bark furiously at every passer-by, thus disturbing the whole neighbourhood. People do not realise that the average dog is a reasonable creature, and neither barks nor bites unless annoyed. Many valuable and much-loved dogs have to be destroyed as the result of protests from neighbours, who, if they would only teach their children to be kind to animals would have no cause for complaint.
