OTAHUHU PARENTS' CLUB

CHILD WELFARE INTERESTS A gay scene was presented in the Otahuhu Public Hall on Saturday evening. when the recently-formed Parents' Club held a fancy dress dance for children and an evening for adults. Tlie club, which was formed for the purposo of arranging functions to raise funds for the fostering of work among children in the district, comprises many members who, during the past few years, have been actively associated with kindergarten and similar movements. There was a large assembly of children of all ages, whose brilliant costumes offered a fine spectacle in the grand march. The judging was carried out by Mrs. J. E. Gillies, Mrs. A. G. Grinter and Mrs. Posseniskie. After the awards were made the judges were presented with floral bouquets by several tiny tots. The early part of the evening was devoted to dances and games for the children and solo dances were given by several boys and girls, pupils of Miss Moore giving an exhibition of dancing. The committee respon sible for the arrangements comprised:— Mrs. T. W. Nield (convener), Mrs. J. Kemp, Mrs. Knowles, Mrs. Balson, Mrs. H. Craig, Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. H. Jackson, Mrs. G. Simons, Mrs. Pierce, Mrs. Warrington, Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Pengelly, Mrs. Matthews, and Messrs. W. W. Dawson, R. Knowles, T. W. Nield, A. Currie and J. E. Gillies. A dance programme for adults was enjoyed to music provided by an orchestra under the direction of Miss Webber. The awards for fancy costume were as follows:—Under .three years: Mavis Lamb (what mothers are for), Ethel Webber (Cupid), Fay Nicholson (wedding cake), Ray Archibald (Boy Blue). Best couple, Alice Phillips and Reid Nichols (bride and bridegroom). From four to seven: Betty Jeffries (chicken), Ivan Kemp (Father Christmas), Pat. McAnult.y (ruination), Ray Balson ("Jiggs"), Alan Collins (Sir Walter Raleigh). Best couple, E. Norris and L. Dawson, (twin dolls). Special, Lorna Lovieh (Maori girl). From eight to twelve: B. Chandler (powder puff), G. Steele (clown), C. Simons (bargain hunters' dream). Best couple, E. and L. Nield (Dutch couple); B. Johnson (peppermint). From 12 to 15: Joyce Bennett (Spanish girl), Joan Fearnley (Eastern girl). Special, P. Fielding (Chinese girl). Best couple, Hilda and H. Pointon ("Father and Maggie"). Posters: Doreen Nield 1, Joyce Edelsten 2, Elsie Boniface 3. Specials: P. Nolan and B. Carson.
