MUNGATOON'S CUP
OUTSIDER OF THE FIELD specYacular finishes SCOTLAND WINS SPRINT RACE A series of surprise successes, accompanied by very substantial dividends, formed a feature of the opening of the Waikato Racing Club's Spring Meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday. The outstanding surprise was scored in the Waikato Cup Handicap by Mungatoon, the rank outsider of the field on the win machine. One of several spectacular finishes wps witnessed in this race, Mungatoon winning by a head from the favourite Solarium and Prince Colossus, who dead-heated for second. The Cambridge Handicap provided another remarkably close finish, Scotland, Star Artist and King's Knave being separated by margins of only half-a-head. The weather was dull. Totalisator investments under the win and place system amounted to £18,471, compared with £22,850 on tho first day last year, A decrease of £4379.
