WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Arapuni.—An interesting demonstration of sugarbag work was given and a competition in articles of this class was announced for the next meeting. A competition in papier macho was held and a pianoforte solo enjoyed. The roll call was " What :T most want to learn at the institute." ' Hangatiki.—lt was a red-letter day for this institute, when members and a large gathering of friends met to celebrate the third anniversary. The hall presented the appearance of a bower of flowers. A delightful programme included recitations, musical items and a short play. The president cut the cake and each member received a tiny souvenir flag. Te Pahu. —A special meeting was held to welcome Mrs. Kelso, Dominion organising secretary, and to hear her speak 011 institute matters. Musical items were also enjoyed. The ordinary meeting was held in the garden ol Mrs. Smith, when Mrs, Cox, of Tc Kowhai, gave an interesting and instructive talk 011 gardening. Two com petitions were held, one for sponge cak< and the other for the best dressed doll The roll call was sponge enke fillings. Waitoa.—Mrs. Kobson spoke 011 th( ideals and work of the institute. Mrs Fleming reported 011 Mrs. Kelso's visi and also spoke concerning the courts al the To Arolia Show. enjoyed. Whitikahu. Demonstrations were given of cellophane belt, making, papier mnche and tbo painting and finishing of papier wneho articles. The competition was for four pieces of toffee.
