TROTTING CLUB MEETING

UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER SPRING MODELS NOT WORN The first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's spring meeting, held at Alexandra Park on Saturday, was not an occasion for new spring fashions, but rather for any type of apparel which was proof against the intense cold of a strong wind. Even the new spring hats were unsuitable for such a day and the few which were allowed to brave the weather were clutched hard by their owners at every fresh gust of wind. Fur coats and heavy cloth coats trimmed with fur were worn by the majority of racegoers, while black, brown and navy took the lead in popularity of colour. Some smart tweed suits and ensembles were to be seen, to which a touch of brightness was given by a gaily coloured scarf with a felt hat to match. It was unfortunate that Dame Fashion was compelled to take second place at the meeting, for if the weather had been kinder, there would undoubtedly have been seen some of the charming now spring models.
