SUBURBAN HOMES ENTER# MONEY TAKEN FROM CLOTHES SYSTEMATIC SEARCH MADE S After a systematic- search of clothing "4 he had removed from four bedroom* in .l|§|jt a house in Epsom Avenue early on Saturday i morning, a thief escaped -with £l2 in notes and silver. None of the five occupants was disturbed, although one member of the household heard a door banc at about three o'clock. How-v e\er, his suspicious were riot aroused as he believed the slamming -was caused by the wind. / The thief entered the hack of the house through a window, which he un« latched by putting his hand through a fanlight. He removed clothing from }: bedrooms and must have spent a considerable time carefully going through 7, these articles on the table in the breakfast room at the front of the house. From a pair of trousers he obtained £l2. The house is at the end of a private r - drive some distance from the road, and | i« surrounded by trees. Paddocks on two sides would have afforded the in-, truder a ready means of escape if he -f-V had been disturbed. As a parting demonstration of his IffK; audacity, the thief removed a pair of socks from a clothes line ;ind left in their place the pair he bad apparently \ been wearing. ... . Intruders \vho entered the house of ' Mr. J- R. Rodger at 47 Lincoln Street,Ponsonby, early on Friday night, made a thorough search of a bedroom, but failed to obtain any money. Nothing was removed from the house. It is believed there were three intruders, as three men were observed by neighbours outside the house. \ After failing to prise op«m the back door or to pick the lock of the frontdoor. the intruders apparently gained entrance through a front window. They ransacked a bedroom, but two £1 notes • placed in the folds of sheets they £§| emptied from a wooden chest escaped their notice. When Mr. Rodger returned home at about 9 p.m. he found the back door, which can be unbolted from the inside, left open. The bedroom presented a scene of confusion, but nothing f was missing. ■
