SYNOD AND DISARMAMENT
Sir, —"A.13." writes on October 18 re tho motion on synod and disarmament. He thinks that had the motion been allowed there would have been some member of synod to tell synod, or the Church, to mind its own business. What is its business? The welfare of its people and fellow citizens, spiritual and otherwise —hence "social aid," etc. "A.8." has made "Church" and "synod" synonymous, and rightly so. Synod is composed of 114 clergy and 73 lay members. Therefore, .synod should, according to "A.8.," confine its energies to calling him and others to repentance. How arduous a task this might be in his case I know not, but as a member of late synod and therefore of the Church, my duty is clear (according to "A.8."). If ho will but givo me his address, I could perhaps pay him a call and impress on him what a miserable sinner he is. His opinion might change thereat, who knows? Anyway, his regret at the motion being put aside was vain, l'or when tho motion re unemployment came up, synod was unanimous, and no one assorted that the subject was "no business" of synod, and how could anyone do so? Fred. C. S, Larson. Te Kohanga.
