CHILD WELFARE ACT

Sir,—ln reference to the Child Welfare Act, I have heard of several youths and grown-up girls who are "out on service" under the welfare scheme being offered better jobs and homes than those they are in, but cannot accept them owing to "rules and regulations." Also they are, 99 per cent of them, on farms and all of the youths have not a liking for their work. They have offers of work in trades, yet cannot accept them. I suggest that the age be cut down to 18, except for criminal offenders. Many of them are under the scheme, not because of their own acts, but because of unfortunate circumstances. Some mothers do not see their children from infancy till they are men—2l years old. This can bo easily cut down to a younger age. The parents of these children can often get a decent job for them if they only had their children. More Justice Wanted.
