Clapham, Wellington, left yesterday by the Monowai for Sydney. Mrs. F. von Schilling, Lower Hxitt, left Auckland yesterday by the Monowai for Sydney. _ N Mrs. W. Peters, Hamilton, and Dr. Mary Douglas, Hamilton, are at the Central Hotel. Mrs. D'Arcy Folkard and her daughters left yesterday by the Monowai for Sydney and Melbourne. At the Station Hotel are Mrs. L, Labone, Wellington, Mrs. E. Parsons, Levin, Mrs. W. Wrigley, Masterton, and Mrs. J. Mcllvride, Wellington. Dr. J. B. Condliffe, who as a member of the Secretariat of the League of Nations has been living at Geneva for some years, will arrive with Mrs. Condliffe and family on a visit to New Zealand next month. The Kohimarama-St. Heliers branch of the W.C.T.U. held their meeting on Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church. The president, Mrs. Kaspar, read her report on the New Zealand Alliance Convention. Mesdames Reffell and Stanley Williams rendered songs. A successful bring and buy afternoon was held by the Devonport Women's Christian Temperance Union on Wednesday- Mrs. Williams presided. Maori Day was observed. Reports of the New Zealand Alliance Convention were read. Mrs. Bragg gave some interesting facts to the meeting. A meeting of the Papatoetoe branch of the Women's' Christian Temperance Union was held this week, Mrs. Long presiding. An address was given by Mrs. Rewa Bennett (J.P.), Dominion organiser for Maori women, on the " Characteristics of the Maori." Several parcels of clothing were collected, also a sum of money for the Maoris in the far north. Afternoon tea was served. London's latest manicure salon is rather iii the nature of a club. Instead of cubicles or bays, everyone is treated in one big lounge room, and conversation is as general as in a drawing-room. Tea and cigarettes are handed round by a smartly-uniformed maid; deep easy chairs and couches are scattered through the room for those who are awaiting their turn Ut the manicure tables, and the whole atmosphere is one of club-like friendliness. > The weekly concert arranged by M rs - Raeburtt and Mr. A. Hamblin at the Public Hospital was held in Ward 22C on Wednesday evening. A very delightful programme was given under the direction of Aunt Jean, consisting of songs, duets, humorous items, and pianoforte solos. All the items were mtich appreciated by the patients and a very happy hour was spent. Those taking part were:—Miss Patricia McLeod, Mrs. N. V. Lepetit and Mr. G. Laird, songs; Mr. Alan Pow, pianoforte solos; Mr. Alan McElwain, humorous items; Miss P. McLeod and Mrs. N. V. Lepetit, duets. The accompanist was Mr. Alan Pow.
