THE PENDING RECESS LIKELY IN FORTNIGHT STATEMENT NEXT WEEK ' TASKS STILL TO BE DONE [BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL REPORTER! WELLINGTON, Thursday The bare possibility exists of the House of Representatives adjourning at the end of next week, but it is more probable that the following week will be required to complete the programme in hand. The resumption of the session early next year is now being accepted as certain. Questioned to-night regarding the Government's proposals, the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, said he proposed to make a statement on Tuesday. He thought the back of the current work would bo broken by the end of next week, but allowance had to be made for unexpected developments, and it seemed likely that another fortnight from now would be required to deal with the remaining business. Outlining the work ahead, Mr. Forbes said the most important task was legislative action ariging out of the Dairy Commission's report, which was tabled to-day. He desired to give members a proper opportunity to study that document, and he would be prepared to accept suggestions regarding subsequent procedure.

Introduction of Bill It could then be determined, said Mr. Forbes, whether a separate day should be set aside for considering the report, 'or whether the report could be discussed simultaneously with the bill which would be introduced shortly to give effect to some of the commission's recommendations. This bill has been drafted for some time, and is expected to appear early next week. The report of the Native Affairs Commission is expected to be in the Government's hands by the middle of next week. No indication can be civen whether it will involve the passing of legislation before the adjournment. . The Companies Commission has submitted its third report, which is now in the hands of the Government printer. This report is said not to have the sensational interest of its two predecessors, but it will require the passing of a bill before the House rises for the short recess. A Finance Bill and an Unemployment Amendment Bill will also be introduced by thd Government at an early date. Possible Visit to Australia The House has still to deal with the balance of the Public Works Estimates, while the supplementary estimates will be introduced on Tuesday. Some of the Government bills on the order paper were disposed of to-day. Of those remaining the Mining Amendment Bill is considered the most important, and it will be passed before the House rises. Unless any unforeseen circumstance arises, there are no other questions requiring immediate attention. It is anticipated that Mr. Coates and possibly one other Minister will leave for Australia on October 30, and that may be the determining factor in expediting the fall of the curtain. In any case, the Labour Opposition has shown recently that it has no desire to prolong the session unduly, so that, with cooperation from all sections of the House, it should be possible for members to leave for their homes at the dnd of this month.
