DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS NEW EDUCATIONAL OFFICER In preparation for the New Zealand swimming championship meeting, which will be held in Auckland on February 16, 18 and 20 next, sub-committees were appointed last evening by the Auckland Swimming Centre to organise the championships. Tho committees are as follow* Programme: Messrs. J, Enwright. H. Moore, W. A. H. Crump, B. M. Sheffield, W. Bfitty; accommodation and reception, Messrs. X. C, Hobbs-Jones, H. Keys, M. Honeyfield, L. Kenny, W. A. H. Crump, H. Milne 6. H. Moore, T. V. Fitzpatrick. R. Moore, F. W. Grey, T. McCarthy, S. Whitley, Mesdames A. 8. Pfiostley, E. Johnson, J. F. Lanftley and Miss E Tilsey, the committee being given pov.-er to add to the number of lady members. Advertising: Messrs. T. C. HobbsJones, T. «T. Clench, H. C. Sidford. The sub-committee ..appointed to investigate the proposal that the first cession of the New Zealand championships on February 16 should be held at Calliope Dock reported that tho Auckland Harbour Board would not at any time guarantee the use of the dock for a carnival. It was therefore decided to abandon the proposal, and to hold the entire championship meeting at the Tepid Baths. . As facilities for diving at the T«p Baths are unsuitable for competitions, Mr. ,T. Flnwneht Giiggestfid tnat th«* New land diving championships, both men t artd Indies', should be decided from Ofte of the wharves or from a pontoon, provided the necessary permission could be obtained from the Harbour Board. A eub-comniitlee. comprising Me?sr«. J. Enwright, T. C. HobbsJones. R. M. Sheffield and W. Batty, was appointed to inquire into the proposal. Mr. D. Saunders was elected the centre s educational officer, in succession to the late \fr C F. Stratford.- Referring to his new office. Mr. Saunders recommended greater interest in school children on the p a jt> of Auckland swimming clubs. He said that, although he had been irt Auckland for a Ahoit time, he had observed more keenness and even animosity among cluba for the berehip of senior competitive swimmers tnan for that of children. He thought the dubs had a splendid opportunity ,of building tip their strength by encouraging children m the eport. and he would assist all. 6lnb» in this direction.
