PROGRESS OF ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP IN FRANKLIN [FROM OUR OWN* CORRESPONDENT] > PUKEKOHE, Thursday An optimistic note was struck by / speakers at the annual meeting of the Franklin Automobile Association last night. The president, Mr. A. Grayson, who with Messrs.' A. A. Dignan and J. H. Kinnear, and the secretary, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, represented the council, mentioned that during the past year the membership had again commenced to increase. Following a period of decline there had been a gain of 594 members This was one factor showing a more hopeful outlook on the part of the people of the Dominion, Mr. Grayson said. He. for one, felt that the country was on the up grade generally. Mr. Grayson mentioned that the association's membership had now / reached 15,201). Mr. Hutchison recalled that when he was first appointed" secretary there wero 74 members. The total income in 1910 was only a little more than the present-dav petty cash account. In his report, the chairman of the Franklin committee, Mr. H. Curd, anticipated a further substantial enrolment of members in the 1' ranklin area in the next few months. He stated that there were at present 758 members attached to the Franklin agency, and there should be every possibility of the number reaching 1000 by August 31 IlGXfc ./• Speakers during the evening paid tributes to the enthusiasm of the agent, Mr. M S. Campbell, and the patrol, Mr. C. D. Walker, • The following were elected the Franklin committee for the ensuing year:-Messrs. Curd, G. T. Proude, L. , W. Reals, I. G. Wvmer, A. B. Ghezju. H. Knight, G. S. Hose, R. C. Clark, /. Bennett and L. C. Logan.
