MEETING AFTER 17 YEARS
BROTHER AND SISTER UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES [BY TEI.EGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON", Monday After 17 years during which they had never seen or heard of each other, a brother and sister who left England about the-war* period have become united in New Zealand under unusual circumstances. The brother, Mr. Frederick Ruff, an able seaman, suffered a fracture of the skull when he fell on the deck of the steamer Remuera. He was operated on at sea and was admitted to the Wellington Hospital on the ship's arrival. Mrs. L. Helsdon, of Flasbourne, near Blenheim, read an account cf the accident in a newspaper and wrote to the hospital authorities, but could not believe it really was her brother until she learned of a tattoo mark on his body. The trip was an eventful one for Mr. Ruff because as the result of his accident he became acquainted 'with a nurse on board the ship and became engaged to her. They are to be married in Sydney in February.
