LAWN TENNIS
LADIES' TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA A correspondent, "Reciprocity." writes as follows With reference to the recent invitation received from the New South Wales Tennis Association for New Zealand tc> .send a ladies' team across to compete in the Melbourne Centenary tournament, although nothing has appeared in the newspapers so far, I understand the New Zealand Association has refused tho invita tion. On what conceivable grounds it has decided this action cannot be imagined. It is twelve years since a New Zealajid ladies' team visited Australia, or.d in the meantime we have had innumerable vjsits from the Australian ladies. However can New Zealand make any progreus in its standard of play if it does not accept opportunities such as an overseas visit to Australia would give? I considor the New Zealand Association's action should cs.ll for condemnation from every player throughout New Zealand, and it is time that tennis players generally should have some say •in such a vital matter. I understand that the New South Walos Association's invitation was accompanied by an offer to billet all players sent over. To sum the position up, it is time that the many visits of the Australian players to New Zealand were reciprocated. The standard of Australian play is very high, and the lending players are constantly on tour, which is reflected by their play. I trust thnt all clubs in New Zealand will take this matter up and demand that tho New Zealand Tennis Association send a ladies' team 'to Australia.
