CONDITIONS FOR LABOURERS agreement in dispute A complete agreement was reached in a conciliation council this week in the northern industrial district ironworkers' labourers' dispute. The agreement will operate for one year from a date to be fixed by the Arbitration Court. The arrangement provides for a 44hour week, with minimum wages for workers ranging from Is 6:ld an hour to Is 8d an hour. In the case of boys and youths the wages range from l'2s 6d a week in the first year to 40s in the fifth year. Overtime payments will be at the rate of time and a-quarter for the first two hours, and thereafter timo and a-half. Extra payment for dirty work is provided for under certain circumstances. The wages for women workers shall bo those prescribed in the Factories Act, and the number of working hours 44 a week, with a recess each morning and afternoon. The tasks on which women workers may be engaged arn:— Viewing and examining, light drilling and rivetting, tapping or screwing, light milling or grinding, light lathe work and press work, assembling, soldering, painting and spraying, packing, and core-making.
