NEW AIR MAIL ROUTE

SINGAPORE-BRISBANE LINK PREPARATION FOR SERVICE (Received September 23, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Sept. 22 The first of five air-liners built specially for the Singapore-Brisbane section of the England-Australia air mail route was due to leave on the first stage of the journey to Australia to-day, but the start was postponed. The machine will be flown by Mr. L. J. Brain, chief pilot of the Qantas 1 - Empire Airways, which holds the contract for the Australia-Singapore mail service. The flight will be made in easy stages, and may occupy about 15 davs.

The new air-liners are each equipped with four engines. They have a top speed, when fully loaded, of 173 miles an hour, and a cruising speed of 14-1.5 miles an hour.
