Saturday Black Duke was favourite for the Second Hurdles at Geraldine to-day, but after leading with Lycidas for the first half of the journey he gradually drifted and was a beaten horse half-a-mile from home. Lycidas hud a useful lead from Reminder entering the straight, with Jolly Beggar and Coll moving up. In a hard finish Jolly Beggar wore down Lycidas to beat hint by half-a-length. Coll was a length back, with a break to Black Duke and Reminder. Theatni was withdrawn from the Wainui Hack Handicap and Hunting Go. bracketed with .Top Coat, was made a staunch favourite. Both the second choice. Hostile, and Hunting Go wrre slow to move off and they tailed the field over the early stages. Entering the home run the result appeared to be between Unseen and Top Coat, but Hunting Go, with a great run, got up to gain a neck verdict from Unseen, who beat Top Coat by half-a-length. Wonderful, who ran out very wide turning for home, was two lengths away, ill front of Night Gem and Forceful. Agility led throughout in the Domain Trot and won after a prolonged struggle with Noble Prince, one of several who failed to move off correctly. There was a close contest for favouritism in the President's Handicap between Ventrac owl Ranelagh. The early leaders were Rin 'J'in Tin, Red Dance, Ventrac and Manetho. but. Red Dance retired after passing the home turn and Ventrac and Some Shamble entered the straight in front of Prince Val. Manetho. Davolo. Ranelagh and Red Racer. The two last-named improved their positions turning for home while the two leaders wers showing signs of distress. Red Racer actually hit the front inside the distance .vnd then Ranelagh ranged ur> alongside- him. while Horowhenun, seventh into the straight, crept up 011 the inside. A strenuous finish ensued. Horowhenua staying 011 best to win by a length from Red Racer, who beat Ranelagh by 0 neck. Davolo was two lengths away, and then came Ventrac, Prince Val, Silver Sight. Manetho and Some Shamble Rebel Chief, bracketed with Gold Cross, was sent out a good favourite for the Gladstone Handicap and again outclassed the field. He went to the front after a furlong liad been covered and won comfortably by 11 length from Travenna, who beat Cheap Money by over that margin. Wee Musk was half-a-length awuy, a head in front of Silk Paper. Tunneller and Brown Pearl were Sage King essayed to win the Winchester Trot from flag fall and only failed over the last 50 yards. Noble Piince, who again lost several lengths by failing to go off correctly, finished strongly and beat huge King by a Adsum gained third money, three iengths away, two lengths in front of Handicapper. Mobile was in most demand for the Stewards' Stakes Handicap and had a decisive win. He wa« always well up. and although challenged by Red Boa in the straight, he held 011 to win by a length. Quietlv finished on well into -third place, a length in front of Gaysome. Sam Smith was much better supported than Colossian for the concluding event but met trouble going out of the straight and was sent back to last place, a position he still occupied at the home turn. Colosflian led into tlio etraiffht clcnr of Weatherly, Sungem and Sibella and inside the distance looked a likely winner. But a little further on Night Form appeared on the scene and, after an interesting struggle, finished best to gain a verdiet from \Veatherly, who outstayed (olossinn. Sam Smith was galloping well over the last three furlongs ami got up into fourth place.
