"LEOPARD WOMAN" FRAUD

A " leopard woman " fraud at a fair was the subject of a prosecution at Doncaster recently, when James Ainscow, amusement caterer, and Walter Asquith, of Beigliton, near Sbeffield, were sent to gaol for a month for obtaining 'money by false pretences. It was stated that the men were showing the "leopard woman," whom Asquith described as "a living freak, part animal, part fish, part woman — this 'it' woman newly introduced from America'."

The "leopard woman," declared the police, was merely Asquith's wife. She was perfectly normal except that she had tattoo marks on her chest. She was submerged in a tank of water, but the police discovered she was able to breathe through a glass dome invisible to the public. When her husband was charged Mrs. Asquith said, " I must do something to Ret my money back. This tattooing cost Hie £00."
