LIFE BAN ON MOTORIST
DRIVING ONLY 20 DAYS A fine cf £IOO and disqualification from holding a driving licence for life was the penalty imposed by Mr. Justice Lawrence, at Birmingham, recently on Edward Pegg, a 43-year-old plumber, of Derby. He was found guilty of the manslaughter of John William Goodbo!d, at Derby, on June 27. It was alleged that Pegg's car ran across the road and mounted the grass verge on wliicli Goodbold was walking, knocked him down, carried him 10 yards, and then ran over him. Pegg said that he had had a car only since June 7,' and had had 14 hours 1 driving experience. The steering had gone wrong, and he was looking about inside and outside the car to find what was tho matter, and ho did not see Goodbold.
The jury made a strong recommendation f6r mercy on the grounds of Pegg's inexperience
