SIR JOHN KELLY'S SHIPMATE
" I'm sure I served with him during tho war!" The exclamation was uttered by the chief waiter at a Bloomsbury hotel lately, indicating to his wife at the same time a naval officer who was passing them in the Portsmouth Dockyard.
The yard was open to visitors during certain h<Ws in connection with Navy Week, and the Londoner wati taking advantago of tho opportunity to revive old memories. Overhearing the words, the officer turned and spoke to the civilian. He had been a wardroom steward in the battle cruiser Princess Royal.
And the officer, whose walk had been abruptly interrupted by the rev mark, was Commander-in-Chief, Admiral Sir John D. Kelly, who, during the war, was -in command of H.M.S. Princess Royal as Captain Kelly. He has been Commander-in-Chief of the Home since 1932.
