WRESTLING CONTESTS
TOURNEY AT WHANGAREI [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Friday In a wrestling bout staged in the Town Hall by the Whangarei' Wrestling Association this evening, Dean Detton, 14st •'jib, drew with Dr. F. Meyer, 15st. There was a large attendance. Meyer obtained a submission fall in the fourth round with a barred toehold, and Detton equalised in the seventh with a body press following a flying tackle and two drop kicks. The preliminary bouts resulted:—L. North, Bst 121b (Whangarei), heat G. Pairaina, 9st 21b (Hikurangi), by two straight falls; I. Boyd, 9st (Whangarei), and D. Council, 9st (Hikurangi), drew, no falls being registered; 1. Wilkinson, 9st 101b (Whangarei), beat T. Tomfort, lOst 61b (Hikurangi;, on points. N. Boyd, lOst 21b, and H. Finlay, 9st 1211) (Whangarei), were both disqualified for not breaking when told to do so. Finlay had secured one fall. This bout was particularly entertaining, Finlay attacking the referee on three occasions.
