WILL OF PARLIAMENT
GOVERNOR'S ATTITUDE REPLY TO RESOLUTIONS On September 6 a meeting was held in the -Wellington Town Hall, at which resolutions were passed protesting against the extension of the life of Parliament, the permitted trading in New Zealand waters of subsidised American ships, and the pegged high exchange. The meeting also called on the Government to hold a general election. The resolutions were forwarded to the Gov-ernor-General by Mr. W. Thomson, who organised the meeting, and he has received the following reply from Sir Cecil Day, official secretary, stating that while the Governor-General cannot prudently give for publication an official reply to resolutions of this character unless submitted to him in a formal way, such as, for example, h.v petition, "His Excellency feels free to direct me to make, for your information, the observation that, as regards the particular matters referred to in the resolutions, he could not, with proper regard to the Constitution, take any step which would render abortive the decisions of the majority in a legally constituted Legislature."
