Mrs. E. Wells, Whangarei, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. V. Mottram, Maunsell Road, Parnell.
Miss Margaret Gilfedder is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. Victor Le Prou, at National Park.
Mrs. Edgar Haslett, Dunedin, Mrs. Hope-Gibbons and Miss P. Hope-Gib-bons, Wellington, and Miss 0. Levett, Bulls, arc at the Grand Hotel.
Mrs. J. Maloney, Te Aroha, Mrs. M. Woolmer, Manakan, Mrs. B. Pritchard, Wanganui, and Miss S. White, Takapau, are at the Station Hotel.
Mrs. Phillip Keddell and Miss Dorothy Moore, Christchurch, who have been visiting Auckland, will leave to-day by car for Rotorua, en route to Wellington and the South Island.
Mrs. J. Lamb, Christchurch, who arrived in Auckland by aeroplane on Monday, and who was with her sister, Mrs. A. Hintz, left by the limited express last evening on her return South.
Mrs. Geoffrey Denniston and her children will arrive shortly from Adelaide to join Mr. Denniston, who has arrived in Wanganui to join the staff of the Collegiate School. Mrs. Denniston's mother, Lady Bell, and Miss Enid Bell (Wellington) have gone to Wanganui to meet them.
A number of friends paid a surprise visit to Mr. and Mrs. John Piatt at their residence, Great North Road, Henderson, on the occasion of the celebration of their silver wedding. Mrs. Osborne, on behalf of those present, presented Mr. and Mrs. Piatt with a tea set as a momento of the occasion.
A social evening was held at the Temple, Wellington Street, on Tuesday. Solos were rendered by Mrs. Hynes, Mrs. Young, Miss Molly Holding and Miss Betty Mahon. Miss Lorraine Compton gave an elocutionary item and Mrs. Probert, Miss Florence Asquith and Masters James and Douglas Probert played instrumental numbers. Mrs. McCune was the accompanist. Bowls of friesias gave the Temple a festive air and dancing and games provided enjoyment for all. Mrs. C. Dickens directed the arrangements.
The weekly concert at the Public Hospital, arranged by Mrs. Raeburn and Mr. A. Hamblin, was held in ward 2 on Wednesday evening. The programme was given by the Serenaders and assisting friends. It consisted of instrumental items, songs, elocution, fancy dancing and a special item by one cf the patients, Mr. J. Martin. Those taking part were Mesdames J. W. Probert, Ernest Asher, R. E. M. Matthews, Misses Florence Asquith, Betty Crew, Leone Lovett, Jean Martin, Messrs. Frank MfeKnight, G. Asher. Overton and Master Douglas Probert. The accompanists were Mrs. L. G. Grace and Mr. George Asher.
