ELLERSLIE TRAINING

GAY BRQNEY, COURTHAVEN

BARN DANCE'S FOUR FURLONGS SCHOOLING OF JUMPERS by aucher Weather and track conditions were excellent for training operations at iMlorslie yesterday and a good deal of useful work was accomplished on the Xo. 1 grass, where the poles were out 10 feet. However, there were no outstanding gallops, as most of the horses went well within themselves and uere not out to make time. Among those to work nicely were Barn Dance Gay Broney, Courthaven, Gay Marigold, Versant, Solomon. Kiltowyn and Baroscope.

On the gr-iss Barograph (McTavish) and On Parade (Lacassie) strode over eix furlongs at three-quarter pacs. Thespis (Burgess) and Wee Pat (Wiggins) encompassed K<u°Ti d in 2,3 * 2 ' s, i he st four furlongs in 545. I hey were together throughout and were going strongly at the finish, ii lr ii Jn , Beie . (McCurdy) was going better than rsotamint (Baker) at the conclusion °j five furlongs in 1.8 1-5, the last four in 545. Air Lassie is showing improved condition and her latest track efforts have been encouraging. She appears to have a nice turn of speed. Barn Dante (Connor) dashed over half a n i V? s ' t ' l 9 best of the morning over the distance. This four-year-old has been very patiently handled and is a sturdy cusw^lo ? na 7 como to form this season. Kelly (Wiggins) went evenly over six furlongs in 1.23, going well within himself all the way. Tenakoe (Burgess) covered a round in 2.5 1-5, the lust six furlongs in 1.27 4-5. Zane Grey (Gilchrist) worked over a distance, running home the last six furlongs in 1.24 3-5. Versant and Gay Marigold Desert Star (Garrett) completed a round in 2.1 4-5, going steadily early and quickening over the last half-mile in 54 l-ss. He ran on very resolutely at the finish and appears to be in better form at present than for some months past. - Aramis (Moore) accomplished a serviceable task, striding over the last six furlongs in 1.27 2-5. Sir Val (Baker; ran an easy five furlongs in 1.10 1-5. Lord Val (Wiggins) worked. usefully over, a round, brushing home the last three furlongs in 40s. Versant (Holland) and Gay Marigold (Wiggins), after running the firet three in 89 3-6s, were going nicely at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. They would have had no diffioulty in improving upon the.time recorded. My Money (Connor) and Gay Sol (Fergus) were altnoat on terms at the end of four furlongs in 54 l-ss. the last, three in 40s. Sporting Song (Clarke) and Gold Pocket (Buchanan) went an easy five furlongs in 1.11 3-5. the last three in 42 l-ss. Gay Broney ; (McTavish) and Courthaven (Gilchrist), covpred a mile in 1.47 2-6. the last four furlongs in 51 4-ss. They kept together t<ll the way and it was a very useful effort. Gay Broney haß done a lot of work, but he is a robust customer who will probably be all the better : for a race or two. ■Solomon (Wiggins) was responsible for five furlongs in 1.5 3-5, the last three in 39 l-ss. Ha was travelling well at the finish and is in. good heart at present. Modern Maid also wonted over five furlongs in 1.?. Baroscope's Useful Effort Ruling King (Carmont) and Chief Emerald (Miles) wefe allotted a working effort over aground in 2.9 3-5, the two-year-old Captain Bruce (E. Manson) assisting them over the last - half-mile in 57 4-ss. The two-year-old Heskertoon (Cammick) strode over four furlofjga tti's9s". • Kiltowyn (Parsons) got to the end of a round in 1.55 2-5, running the last six fur-longs-In 1.20 4-5 ..and the last four in 's4s. He went in his usnal good style and is progressing splendidly,. . „ Baroscope (Mansqtt). with Jalldy Kalo (Parsons) to assist over the last half-mile, encompassed a Tound in 2.1 3-5, going steadily early and running the last four furlongs in 52 2-J>s. ' Baroscope's cut heel is still giving some trouble. Merry Lap and Lady Diana were allotted useful tasks, and-on the tan Catomn covered a round in 2.1 3-5. the last eix furlongs in 1.2G 3-5. Catoma is doing nicely and should b* in fine trim for-his spring engagements. Miss Dassle (Fergus) finished several lengths ahead of Neil (Mcllrov). Ardmanning (Sharkey) and Absent (Baker), at the conclusion of a smart schooling bout over a round of the steeplechase fence*. All jumped well. Miss Dazile and Neil in particular. . The sand and the tan were extensively used for pace work and among those to sceompl'sh serviceable tpsks weTe Chromadyne),"Chief Cook, Psychologist. Royal Anellant. Master Re*. Overdue. Hawthorn. Red FUme and Parkhurst. The last-named was also schooled over a couple of pony hurdles, which he jumped safely. HAWERA HORSES CARFEX GALLOPS SOUNDLY LOWENBERG'S GOOD PROGRESS [FROM OT7R OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAWERA. Wednesday The Tiber's form on the concluding iday at Wanganui was so bad that it had his-owner-trainer puzzled. It transpires- that the horse was galloped on during the race and the marks are quite apparent, although Hot deep. The Tiger, after a -few days on the easy list, will be prepared, to race at Waverley' on Labour Day.

Carfex thrives on racing and returned from Wanganui in great shape. This mornihg he'went at half-pace from the mile and a-qiiarter post to the five furlongs and then galloped home solidly in a tick under 1.4. He was unlucky at Wanganui and his turn may not be far off. Carfex should make a forward showing ut Foxton. / J. Bromi's Grand Knight, gelding Arouse is standing up to his work in good style, and this morning, from a slow start, he sprinted three furlongs in 37b. doing it very nicely. Thero no>* seems every probability of Arouse facing the starter in the near future, as he is holding his condition well. Silver Wings satisfied her trainer by her run at Wanganui. Owing to W. Grindlay's accident, the filly's preparation was interfeied with and it was a last-minute decision that decided on giving her a race. She should benefit materially from the run and will be in nice order for Waverley. Lease of St. Clara Extended

Campion lias secured another year's lease of St. Clara. The Grandcourt mare did not do well during the latter part of last season, but the spring should see her shewing better form. When fit, .St. Clara is £ fine galloper who may be found going well over a bit of ground. The latest advice from O. Cox is that the two-year-old Golden Promise is doing splendidly. Golden Promise is a brown colt by Limond from Lady Bentinck and he is expected to make his debut in the Breeders' Plate at Randwick. Cox's hack Round Table has been disappointing in his work and he may be returned shortly, • From Melbourne J. Fryer reports all well with his charges. Radiant Star. Rollovant and Oriel. At the time of writing Onel had started twice but on unsuitable tracks, and was expected to do better on the biaiKer coiirees. as he was dping well., , The two-year-old colt Lowenber«, by Lord 'Que*-'from Zarene. is making splendid progress and went well in a sprint yesterday, finishing alongside R. Broughs Colossus—Lady Egletine three-year-old in 9155. Lowenberg, who is furnishing into a ; fine-looking horse, has a great stride and Handles himself capably. If present intentions are adhered to. he will have his firat race at Feilding in November. . The Lady Egletine three-year-old is a smart galloper and has been givfn plenty of time. Brough will probably not race him until the Christmas meetings. Friesland has improved since he raced at the '-unt meeting at New Plymouth and is steadilv becoming more solid. He should not be long in winning his way out of the maiden class. Gopey Recommissioned ' It is intended lo race the old steeplechaser Coney again and with that object in view he is beii;'' ziven a ceurse of road exercise. His injured leg has fined down and the old fellow is well. T. Tucker, the hurdles horseman, is contemplating another trip to Melbourne shortly, and it is auite on the cards that he may take Gopey with is again showing plenty of dash in his work and distinguished himself yesterday by giving Autumn Leaf a big ibreflk .and shading him nt, the finish of three ; n 37 I-ss. i Mr. Alexander's filly Fsra was aeain unfortunate in her race at Wanganui, being bnd'y placed from the jump out nnd unable to show her undoubted nnce until too late. Benedictine is the latest recruit to the jumping brigade and lie was sent, over a couple of schooling fences this morning, makinf 8 good first attempt. Hawera stables will have strong representation sf the Waverley meeting next month, practically all the horses in active conimiasion being booked to race there.
