A MINIATURE RAILWAY

Sir, —I was interested to read of the proposed model railway at the zoo, but my hopes were dashed to the ground when it later said that a motorcar chassis and engine were to serve as a "loco," with a make-believe body built over it. Does New Zealand, who is trying to make herself attractive to the tourist, want them to see in one corner of the Zoological Gardens an evil-smelling rattle-trap tearing round a closed circuit? New Zealand claims a very high standard of education, but I am afraid that the proposed model railway will not go very far in creating food for thought for its juvenile passengers. This does not seem very appropriate for a country with such educational desires. And surely our industrial manufacturers would like to see something that would really be a credit to the country. Model Engineer.
