ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
SERVICES IN AUGUST ACTIVITIES REACH RECORD A fresh record for St. John Ambulance activities in Auckland was established last month, when the staff was even busier than in July, which was also a record month.
In August district nurses paid 1372 visits to homes in the city and suburbs, against 1319 in July, and covered 1748 miles in- their motor-cars, compared with 1337 the previous month. It was found necessary in August to increase the nursing staff temporarily from four to six. Valuable assistance was lent by the Dock Street Mission, which provided a nurse and paid her salary for six weeks.
Transport was provided for 829 patients in August, against 707 in July. The fleet of eight ambulances travelled 6462 miles during the month, compared with 6124 in July. Out-patients at the Queen's Wharf station totalled 317, a decrease on the figure of 343 for the previous month
