ORDAINMENT OPPOSED UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA (Received September 19. 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, Sept. 18 The legal committee of the United Church of Canada, declaring that the constitution contemplated only a male ministry, recommended that a proposal by the Saskatchewan Assembly to ordain Miss Lydia de Gruchy be not entertained.

Miss de Gruchy has been a pastor for 12 years but she cannot officiate at weddings or baptisms.
