WOMEN'S DIVISION

Mangawara.—At a recent meeting twenty garments were forwarded to the Mount Eden branch of the Hospital Auxiliary. Visitors from Taupiri Institute demonstrated papier macho doll making and novelty brooches. Delightful music and the exhibition of many useful and beautiful craft articles by the visitors were greatly enjoyed. Te Aroha. —The membership is steadily increasing. The knitting competition was divided into two classes — one for small articles and the other for large ones. A pair of socks knitted by Mrs. Hair won first place. In section B three garments were classed as equal. Cardigans by Mesdames Geravs and Jessop and a boy's suit by Mrs. Hon Eastwood. Mesdames Blackwell and Souter, of Waitoa, acted as judges. The hpstesses were Mesdames Dailies and Landman. The branch recently celebrated its fourth birthday. Mesdames Hurliman and Faulkner being responsible for a most enjoyable programme. Elstow. —Miss McCormick (president) presided over a very well attended meeting. Votes of sympathy were passed to Miss Blackford and Mrs. Empson. Two delegates were appointed to attend a meeting of all women's institutions to be held in Te Aroha to discuss the matter of improved conditions in the rest room. A competition for puff pastry was won by Miss N. McCormick and Mrs. Allen was second. Waitakaruru.—Mrs C. Hayward (president), presided over a good attendance of members. It was decided to hold an entertainment in aid of the school dental clinic. Mrs. Connel entertained with musical competitions. Solos were rendered by Mesdames C. Hayward and Adams. The hostess for the afternoon was Mrs. C. Hayward. Waitawhetawheta. Mrs. Olney (president), assisted by Mrs. Drinkwater, presided. Mrs. Drinkwater's talk on the aims and objects of the women's division was very much appreciated. Mrs. Lithgow was appointed vice-president in place of Mrs. Bedford, who recently resigned. Vocal items were given by Mrs. Jack Jones and Mrs. Lithgow.
