EXPORT OF BUTTER
DECLINE IN AUGUST BRITISH MARKET SUPPLY HEAVY ARRIVALS FOR YEAR Shipments of butter from New Zealand daring August, the first month of the new season, were 1776 tons lower at 5586 tons than in August, 1933. The uncertain outlook in the market is reflected in the small proportion of f.o.b. sales for the month. Of the butter shipped in August, 88 per cent was consigned and 12 per cent sold f.0.b., the proportions in August, 1933, being 59 per cent and 41 pe.- cent respectively. The total shipments of Southern Hemisphere butter to the United Kingdom in August were SSI7 tons, compared with 9590 tons in August, 1933. New Zealand shipped 5500 tons, coinpared with 7121 tons last year, Australia 2917 tons, against 2461 tons, and Argentina 400 tons, against 8 tons. Although there was a substantial reduction in imports from Empire countries during August, the total supply to Great Britain declined only slightly in comparison "with August, 1933. Figures for the eight months of 1934 ended August show that Britain has been absorbing more than 1000 tons weekly above the 1933 imports. Imports in 193S increased by 8 per cent, compared with 1932, but the 1934 imports show an advance of 16 per cent over the previous year. The foreign supply is 15 per cent higher for the current year and the Empire supply 17 per cent. Stocks of all butters in London on September 1 were estimated at 45,700 tons, compared with 31,300 tons at the same date last year. Stocks in Zealand and New Zealand stocks afloat comprised 12,653 tons, against 14.339 tons last year. THE CHEESE POSITIOH SMALLER SHIPMENTS MADE The export of cheese from New Zealand during August totalled 4932 tons, 1348 tons less than in August, 19. W. Of the August shipments, 62 per cent was consigned and the proportion of white to coloured cheese was 67 per cent to 33 per cent.
