BOWLING NOTES

APPROACH OF NEW SEASON CHALLENGE MATCHES CONTINUE BT SKIP The summer bowling season is near at hand and the summer greens are now being brought into use for winter play. The Mount Eden and Auckland clubs had their summer greens in use on Saturday, while Epsom opened its two greens the previous week. The Mount Eden club entertained the representatives of the Press and Printers for their annual outing and the two summer greens played surprisingly well. The Mount Eden club's rinks were too good for the opposition, only one victory being secured by the latter in the six games, and one game was drawn.

At the tea adjournment the president of the Mount Eden club, Mr. A. Dignan, welcomed the visitors. In replying, Mr. R. M. Hacket referred .to the fine situation of the club's greets and complimented the club on the quality of the rinks. On the Auckland green, where two of the challenge games were played, the club opened two summer playing areas, one of the greens being the newly-constructed six-rink green which was built on two former croquet lawns. Both challenge games were very even, victory in each case only being gained over the last three heads. Keatley's Rocky Nook team, holder of the Edwin Stars, was opposed by a strong Carlton team, skipped by de Launay, and as the result of the game lost possession of the trophies. The next challenger is W. Corrin, Waitemata. The other match also resulted in the defeat of the .holders, the Diggers Badges being captured by Milner's Rocky Nook team, which scored a narrow win over Preston's Grey Lynn rink. The next challenger is C. M. Culpin, Rawhiti. Owing to sickness there was no game for the Denison Pins. The match was to have been played on the Mount Eden green, and the team opposing R. Thomas (holder), Mount Albert, was Denison's Balmoral rink. The challengers for next Saturday will be T. 11. George's Epsom combination.
