GIBL DIES AT ROTORS £/! accident in reserve *|| BATHING IN EVENING fBT TELEGRAPH —PEES-3 ASSOCIATiOxI ROTOET7A, Frid»yj|P The death occurred in the Rotoma Hospital to-<iay of Miss Xona Pettit, aged 20, as the result of burns received through falling into a hot pool in the Kuirau Reserve last evening. Apparently the girl, accompanied by a. companion, went to the reserve shortly after nine ox-lock to bathe in one of the larger poois. She left the water before her companion in order to dress, but while passing along a narrow path between .two small hot pools sb« slipped and fell. Her companion heard a splash and a scream and. on reaching a small pool, found Mi-s Pettit just coming to the surface. Miss Pettit was immediately taken home, a doctor being summoned en route. Miss Pettit was ordered to hos. pital, but died there this morning. An inquest was opened before Mr. ,■ W. L. Richards, coroner, this afternoon and was adjourned sine die. Miss Pettit was a well-known basketball player, and popular among young people in Rotoraa.
This is the ninth fatality that has occurred in connection with these poolt during the past 35 years. It is understood that immediate instructions were issued to-day to have fences erected round them.
