"COMING OF AGE"

TRAVELLERS' ASSOCIATION GOOD WORK FOR CHARITY The 21st anniversary of the foundation of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association of New Zealand was celebrated by the Auckland association at a function in the Town Hall concert chamber last night. About 350 members and guests were present, the guests including reprepresentatives of local bodies and other organisations. Mr. W. H. Prentis, president of the Dominion and Auckland associations, presided. The great work for charity accomplished bv the commercial travellers was emphasised by Mr. Prentis when responding to the toast of the association. In the last 20 years the Commercial Travellers' Associations of New Zealand had collected between £300,000 and £400.000 for charity. Two monuments to their work, the gift of the hospital at Whangarei and of Lancaster Park to the citizens of Christchurch, would alone be sufficient to make a name for them everywhere. Latelv thev had been adopting a policy of giving 'direct to the recipient and bv this method had provided c othes for 1700 children of the schools ot Auckland. Mr A. J. Entrican, deputy-mayor, said the City Council was greatly indebted to the association for what it had done for the poor of Auckland. The toast of "The Visitors was responded to by Mr. C. M. Croft, Canadian Trade Commissioner, who said the association was doing a great; deal to enhance the very high reputation that New Zealand possessed with the com mercial community overseas. Music was provided by the travellers and warehousemen's choir under tie baton of Mr. H. and bv the orchestra of Sargood s Musical Club conducted by Mr. L. E. Lambert.
