BARRETT'S HOTEL SITE

Tho statement that tho central section of the Hotel Cecil in Wellington stands on the original site of Barrett s Hotel, conducted by "Dicky" Barrett, is contradicted by a correspondent of tho Dominion. Ho says:—"There are many photographs of the old site still in existence, and these show that Barrett's Hotel was situated about 40ft. from tho present corner of Molesworth Street and extended for about 50ft. along Lambton Quay. This site was purchased from tho natives >n 1842. When tho lease fell in the provincial government took it over, and later used tho building as tho Public Works Office."
